To start off our “Top 10 Florida Weekend Getaways” series the honors go to miss Anna Maria Island and her key west vibe nestled just below St. Petersburg, only 2 hours from Orlando.

Anna Maria, or AMI, is located on a barrier island off the coast of Bradenton. The sugar sand beaches are visited by the savy tourists and nearby locals, but most retirees call this place home and why wouldn’t they, it’s awesome.

Now don’t get me wrong, this is not Party Town USA, nor does it want to be, but if you jump in the car on a Friday after work you can be in paradise in time to watch the sun go down and your worries waste away.
