Red Rocks Amphitheatre || Colorado, USA

IMG_0768Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rock structure near Morrison, Colorado, 10 miles west of Denver, where concerts are given in the open-air amphitheatre. There is a large, tilted, disc-shaped rock behind the stage, a huge vertical rock angled outwards from stage right, several large outcrops angled outwards from stage left and a seating area for up to 10,000 people in between.  They not only host a multitude of amazing music concerts at Red Rocks, including the walks of Jimmy Hendrix and the Beatles, but what I saw a flyer for and want Red_RocksAir1879SMto do the next time I’m in Denver is catch a sunrise yoga class.  Check the calendar for all of the events going on while you are in town.

***ETJ Experience***

I had been to Red Rocks just once while visiting friends in Denver back when I was living in Texas.  No one played a concert, just some walking around and a few photos.  Same for my Pops.  He and I had both been there, but never experienced it as it was intended.  Seeing a concert at Red Rocks has been on my ETJ Bucket List since that first trip and we got that opportunity after Poppa Bear hit a hole in one from 100 yards out during a charity golf tournament.  That hole in one scored us 2 tickets to anywhere in the US via a special Spirit Airlines contest.  (The only time I recommend flying Spirit Airlines is when it’s free.)  We researched the events calendar and sure enough Steve Miller Band was playing.  Add to that a beautiful night at Red Rocks with John Felder from the Eaglers as the opening act.  I can honestly say it was my favorite concert I’ve ever been to and experiencing it with my father, priceless.

According to Wikipedia, Red Rocks was one of the favored venues for The Grateful Dead and the venue has become a traditional stop for many subsequent jam bands.  One such jam band, Widespread Panic, holds the record for the most sold out performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre (42 shows as headliner, plus one show opening for Blues Traveler in 1994).
